My new toy

While I realize this is not really a "toy", I do plan on having a lot of fun with it. I have wanted for a while now to get into shooting as a hobby. I was able to trade two items for this and there was no cash involved in the transaction at all. The value of my stuff was probably below $200 so I got the better end of that deal!!! I am going to try to get out to the range every month or so and work on my marksmanship skills (or my lack thereof). Just so you know, Wisconsin does not allow for concealed carry (sigh) so I will not be doing that. I also found out that gun registration is only done when you purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer. It is not required to register a gun in a private sale. Historically, in other societies, firearm registration has been used to identify those with guns and confiscate firearms from the masses so I was glad to find out about that. We live in a great country in that it still allows its citizens to purchase firearms fairly freely (although concealed and open carry in Wisconsin are for all intents and purposes prohibited. Again, sigh...) I also wanted to make it known that even though I keep the gun out of reach of the children, I have shown it to them and explained very clearly its dangers and that they are never to touch it for any reason. Claire actually appeared afraid of it, for which I am glad at this point. Someday I would like to introduce her to shooting, but that is still several years down the road. Here is a page describing my gun better, but the whole site is really very informative and interesting.

Jake...I wanted to ask you if you still owned your Ruger .22 semi-auto rifle. I think I asked you that when we visited, but I don't remember your answer. If you still have it, do you shoot it ever anymore? Just curious. Here is the shooting range I will probably be using, but I am hoping I can find a free one. www.deerfieldpistol.com

That looks like a nice gun. I notice you keep it next to the commode.

Actually, these are the pics that were taken by the seller the day before we made exchange, but I didn't see any need to retake them. The gun is not kept on the vanity. LOL

It looks like a nice piece, Justin. What is the make and model?
I do still have my .22 though I don't believe I have used it since Dawn and I go married. I probobly should dig it up and tend to it (I have no idea what condition it is in.).

It is a Ruger .357 magnum stainless steel 5 shot with double action and a 2.25 inch barrel. Yep, that about sums it up. I still haven't fired it, but can't wait. Yeah your gun probably needs a good cleaning. Hopefully no rust has set in. Are you free to plink in your backyard or does your neighborhood restrict such things?

Its nice that you have a renewed interest in guns Justin. And thanks for sharing your excitement with us. Owning guns has always been an important part of the American way of life. I'm happy for you and for Jacob. Keep us informed about how well you do on the range. Is being able to draw the gun out of the holster quickly, part of the training, like in the "old western movies"?

There probably are championships for quick draw, but I don't think that is part of most of the the elite championships. It is generally considered more dangerous as the gun could go off if it was snagged on something during the draw. Nobody wants a foot with a hole in it. The range here in Deerfield specifically prohibits quick draw.
