I got this idea to write about memories of your Mom's or Grandma's buttons from some other blogs I have been reading. I thought it sounded like fun since I do have memories and buttons! As you can see from the note my Mom left me with many of her mothers and grandmothers buttons. Since they both sewed it was an important part of their supplies. The wooden box in the picture was my mothers button box that I remember being near her sewing machine as far back as I can remember. She often gave me the fun job of searching for matching buttons to go on something she was making.
I as a mother always had my own jar of buttons and my children enjoys stringing them and making necklaces. I can remember my children proudly wearing them to church when they were somewhere between the ages of 3-6. Eventually I would get the buttons back when they tired of the necklace. Somewhere I have a photo of Paula playing with buttons at Grandmas house. She had them spread out on the seat of a chair sorting them by color and design.
I do have some beautiful ones that may have some value to them and I may sell some eventually if the offer is good enough! They are attached to my heartstrings but I also realize they are but things that can burn get lost whatever. I do love looking at them though . I am almost sure that many of the little white ones that I have in the bottle are made from shells before plastic was used.
A good size coat button is great for playing the old game button, button whos got the button, of course the fun in this game is to see if you can keep a straight face if you got slipped thebutton!

Wow that's a lot of buttons. That's a real interesting wooden container in the first picture too.
Didn't we always use buttons when we would play huckle buckle beanstalk?
What was that game anyway. You mentioning it really brought the name to memory but I cant remember what it was!
