This family blog continues the one originally started by Luke. It is hoped through the sharing of stories, ponderisms, and pictures of family and events, that this online journal will serve to enhance and nurture our relationship and draw us closer to God and each other as we travel along life's road. Buckle-up!
A pretty good article. I think fatherhood is devalued because the Church is devalued. The state has replaced or provides an alternative to the Church and family in areas of authority, child-education, protection, healing, and so on. And it is no coincidence that those are roles traditionally played by men in their families and local communities. When the government plays the role of beneficent father, real fathers are made to seem like a relic of a past civilization and the state is threatened by them. One answer to the question of "Where have all the fathers gone? is that they are in government cages. And of course the state put them there. It wasn't meant to be that way. Where the state devalues relationships, the Church restores them by calling each person to accountability in exercising their gifts and their role and their calling as a valued member of Christ's body whether as a Father, a mother, or a child.
