While I was building this little car, I thought a lot about being a father, and about Pop, and the things he taught us, and that regardless of how different we may be, how much I still want to be like him.
Thanks Pop, for inspiring us to be creative, whether drawing a sketch, or playing with Lego's or improvising a repair for the car out of household junk.
Thanks for the times you stepped in and put your foot down, and for the many more times you stood back and let us make our own mistakes.
And thanks for setting such a useful example of hard work and simple living.
You're the best Pop, and we love you.

You were not alone, Luke. I had to work yesterday too. Hopefully, like me, you knew well in advance and were not called in last minute.
When you mentioned Pop fixing cars with household junk the first thing that popped into my mind was his tin foil and wooden stick oil cap on the Chevy Luv.Curious to know what other first thought of.
I have also been curious as to what ever became of your solar water heater project.
I remember that oil cap as well. I also remember him helping me put a driver's side floor in that black BMW. (Remember Jake that you lent me the total for that and I paid you back bit by bit.) Pop and I and maybe others went down to the end of Dove Hill Rd where it turned to dirt and found an old kitchen stove that someone had dumped. Pop used tin snips to cut the side out of that oven and then was able to shape it into a new floor for that car. That floor worked great for the couple of years that I had that car and always felt just like it belonged there. I was always amazed (and still am) at what Pop was able to do with his hands. I think there must be no greater investment that a father can make in his children's lives then just the time that he spends with them. The most precious memories I have of Pop are of him doing stuff with us. I know he probably had tons of other things that he wanted to do, but he always seemed willing to lay aside whatever he was working on to help us.
Just thought i would let you know that Pop did read all your wonderful words. He is not ready to respond yet, but I know he will!
