Either that or money has just lost it's value. Probably some of both. We still have ours in the living room. It has some marks from use, but just as solid and strong as day number 1. No creaks whatsoever. I love it.

We have ours in the living room. It did develop a crack in one of the rocker legs but I glued and clamped it. I need to take the clamp off. It's been on there for a few months.

I always remember Mrs Cutright having a lot of Clore furniture that had been handed down from her grandparents and I think they bought some themselves. I just always remember her saying if you ever go to an auction or yard sale and its Clore furniture buy it but generally it goes for more than it cost originally. She could spot Clore furniture from a distance. I never had the good fortune or money to have any for myself. I do think though they stand by their product and you can get that leg fixed if you brought it to them in Madison, at least that use to be their policy.

We may have paid $200.00 can't remember now.I remember it felt like a stretch for us but we wanted to give you something that could last for generations.
Actually though they have increased in money value because people can't buy them new for what we paid for them 10 years ago. Isn't that how that works?

Everything else being equal (which it isn't) you can't buy the same amount of goods with $200 today that you could 10 years ago. The price of goods goes up, not necessarily because something is "worth" more. It is because a dollar is only worth maybe 80% of what it used to be so it takes more dollars to buy the same thing.

By the way...I just pulled 80% out of the air so please don't try to do any math with that on this example.

Like you said originally Justin there are some of both factors. Quality, American, Handmade items are getting more and more scarce, driving up the perceived value, and things are ultimately worth what people will pay for them. Many items are coming down in price in spite of inflation. Consider the prices of bicycles at Walmart. They are cheaper than they were when we were kids. And used one's go for less than 10 dollars on Craigslist. The fact that the rocker is going up in price does seem to me to vindicate it as a great purchase. The "value" of the rocker has outpaced and basically defeated inflation, making it far more valuable than even the "price" of money 10 years ago. So the value is really increased either way you look at it. Since the nature of money is that you can't shield it from inflationary forces, then buying the rocker did actually increase the value of the money you spent even in 1990's era dollars. In other words, it was a great investment, and I think that's what Mom was saying.
