My crazy morning.

I don't often have days like this. In fact, I can't remember ever having a morning quite like the one this morning. A good dose of frustration and equal amounts of hilarity helped to balance everything out, however. Maybe the rest of you can share similar experiences. I would like to hear about them.

This morning I woke up as usual to get ready for work. I am usually the first one up and I often go downstairs to get a quick peek at the news and weather and to check email. I was very surprised to see that Claire's school was closed. We had some ice and snow last night, but I surely didn't expect the school to close. Well, nothing I can do, so I go back upstairs to tell Jenni. Whenever this happens on the days that Jenni works, we have to determine if the babysitter will take Claire and Maddie as well. So...I have to wait around until Jenni is able to call her (she doesn't want to call before 7:30am). At 7:30 we found out that the babysitter was fine with taking the two extra, so I went outside to get into the truck and leave for work.

Well, that was the idea anyway. The ice storm last night froze the doors shut on the truck so I struggled for a bit to get them open, but to no avail. The rear hatch opened, so I decided to climb in that way and start the truck to let it warm up and hopefully that would help. When I climbed in, I had forgotten that I had set my lunch on the seat and my knee crushed a banana all over the seat and my pantleg. I started the van also as the sliding doors would not budge. I then went back inside to change and let the cars run for a while. After 15 minutes or so, I went back out to check on things and all the doors were still frozen shut. I scraped on the windows for a while so we could see and then had to get Sophie into her carseat by leaning over the front seat of the van. I climbed into the truck through the rear hatch and Jenni closed the door since there is no inside door handle.

Now, you might have already figured this out, but it did not occur to me until after I got to work. I was hoping all the while that the doors would come loose during the 15 minute drive to work, but I had not considered what I would do if they did not. Well...they did not. Now I was facing being stuck in my own vehicle since the back hatch does not open from the inside. Thankfully I was able to get the passenger window down and was able to crawl out the window. When I talked to Jenni later to tell her of my predicament she laughed and laughed.

On the upside, I did not get a flat tire, there were no nuclear explosions, and I haven't stubbed my toe (yet). I guess I should count my blessings.

HAHA! That sounds like a typical day for me. :)
The banana story reminds me of the time my sisters and I camped in our tree house. I decided to sit beside one of them in a hammock, I was eating the banana while climbing in. The hammock wouldn't hold both of us, so we crashed to the floor, and somehow the banana shot out of the peel and ended up under her knee!

A hilarious story, very interesting and well written. I wish I could have seen you climbing out that car window! Did you go to work with the banana spot on your pants?
That is funny but snow and cold weather can add a lot of stress if you need to be somewhere on time.
You guys need to move more south...come on down!

No, I changed clothes. But it wasn't just a spot. I didn't know that I was on top of that banana until I got back out of the car. After wrestling with the locks and the door handle for a couple of minutes, that banana was all over!

I thought you were going to say you got to work then realized it was your day off. I have woke up before and thought "My alarm didn't go off!,jump out of bed, make coffee and drink it before I remember its my day off! Your story reminds me of the times I have gone to pick up something large like a mattress or piece of furniture. More than once I have used ratchet straps/ rope to secure it to the top only to realize, when I get ready to leave, that I have strapped all the doors shut.
By hatch do you mean the sliding rear window? I am having a hard time envisioning a hatch on a pickup.
