This family blog continues the one originally started by Luke. It is hoped through the sharing of stories, ponderisms, and pictures of family and events, that this online journal will serve to enhance and nurture our relationship and draw us closer to God and each other as we travel along life's road. Buckle-up!
so you are starting from Jenni's hometown, right? What time do you start and when is the finish? All in one day? 126 miles????? Are you bringing a camera? Exciting!
The start is 8:30 and the finish is anytime between 3:30 and 7:30pm. Yep, all in one day. Gonna be tough, but fun. I probably will bring the camera. It's not a race, so I should be able to snap a few along the way.
I have read that it is not unusual for a healthy person to finish in under five hours, but I do not have a "road" bike and I am not going to go as fast as I can, either. I will try to pace myself, so that I don't come in super late, but I want to enjoy the ride.
It was very hard, but also very fun. I had to take some Advil about halfway through because my knees were inflamed. I think a century through relatively flat land would be not too bad, but this was hills, hills, hills from start to finish. That is the way that this one is intentionally designed. They had shortcuts built into the route if you wanted to take them. I took one of them, but then got off course a while later which made up some of the lost mileage. The total distance without shortcuts was 120 or so (they had to shorten a couple spots at the last minute due to road construction). My mileage due to taking that shortcut was around 110. I started off at 8:30am and got back at about 7:10pm. Total time 10:40. Average speed, 10.3 mph.
Yes, Jake...the same old bike. I have done a bit of work to it, but it is essentially the same machine. Still operating very well for a 15 year old bike.

126 miles in one day? That seems impossible.
Pop figured it to be 12 1/2 miles an hour to do it in approx 10 hours

I should say that the five hour statistic was for 100 miles. This is a little further.
Do you still have the same Trek hybrid?
how did it go?
