This is a picture that Paula painted and gave us for Christmas several years ago. I dropped it off at the Frame Depot in Gaffney last week and just picked it up today. The owner of the frame store raved about how good the painting was. I was so proud to tell her it was painted by my sister Paula. She also found a surprise behind the painting when she removed it from the matting that Paula had put on it. I wonder if Paula knows what we found?

Hey this is Paula :) That is so cool you still have that painting and got it framed! I had almost forgotten about that! I think I actually gave it to ya'll for a wedding present though! But I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about what was hidden behind the matting!? I am pretty sure my art teacher at that time was the one who went and got it matted for me. So I am really curious what did you find???
Mom - interesting guess, but not correct.
Hi Paula! Wow, so I have been holding on to this for 10 years!
the suspense is building....
virginia
Virginia what is that supposed to mean?
Is it the story of the barn in Virginia?
Was it the back of the paper that the painting was painted on?
Virginia posted the comment that said virginia. It doesn't mean anything.
That art teacher was overly friendly to Paula he came by our house to visit and asked Paula if she would like to take a walk and I said no she cannot go on a walk alone with you. So maybe it is some sort of letter to Paula from him?
Mom - No, that's not it, nothing like that at all.
if it is something i put there, then it has completely slipped my memory... sooooo how about a hint maybe it'll come back to me. is it another picture or something i wrote maybe? or maybe the photograph that i copied the painting from?
Yes that's it! There was another picture on the back. I wondered if it was something that you had painted or if you had painted on the back of someone else's painting. Maybe to save money for the art class? I don't know, but it was another very good painting. It surprised the framer enough that she called me and thought I should come right away to look at it. In the end the framer framed the painting in such a way that it would preserve the painting on the back as well as the front.
That was so sweet of you Luke!
I was hoping to find out something about the other painting and whether Paula painted it. There must be a story or a theory about why it was painted on both sides. I think it's uncommon to have a double sided painting and think it makes the painting so much more interesting that it has this mystery about it.
That seriously is a good painting, Paula. I hope that is still something you enjoy doing. It reminds me of a van goth.
Van Gogh.......stupid iPad.
One more comment...what is subject of the hidden painting?
It looked to me like a small group of confederate soldiers taking a rest in a wooded area by a stream.
